Course Description
This course was developed to promote an understanding of the diverse histories that have contributed to the creation of our nation. The following groups will be studied as a part of our nation’s history: Indigenous, African Americans, Latinos, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders and women. The focus of this course will be to learn how their stories are truly American stories from which we all can learn and gain strength, chronicling their journey and concluding with contemporary society. This class will stress respect and tolerance in an effort to find the common threads we share as Americans today while celebrating diversity. Students will be encouraged to do their own research and draw parallels to the histories that we are learning about in class through projects and discussions in an effort to further research and analyze parts of our nation’s history that are often over looked. This course is available to students in grades 11-12 (students in grades 9-10, with permission) and is available for College Prep or Honors Level Credit. |
